It was March 2010, I had just come back from a 4 month stint in Afghanistan. I had missed Xmas, and it was coming up to my birthday so I thought, why not treat myself to a modern full susser? With a budget of £1000 I started to do my homework, MBUK was my bible and it wasn't long before I found a bike that ticked every box.

Behold my Voodoo Canzo FS. Now I will be honest, It's more of a Garage Queen now due to the fact my growing fleet of X1's are taking a bashing on the trails, but that's not to say it doesn't get the odd ride out. It's a great bike, well specced with full RACE FACE Evolve XC finishing kit. It rides like a dream and I really should make the effort to ride it more. Anyway here it is, still looking box fresh [wink]

All that bike for £1,000 [eek] Whats the running gear on that beast?

That's a serious bit of bike for that amount of cash! I remember BITD getting a brand new RTS-3 for about £1,100 Jeez times have changed. So how does it perform? as an XC weapon marks out of 10?

When I had the Merida on holiday I could easily notice the difference of performance from what I was used to.

Size 20"
Frame material - Aluminium Alloy
Bars / Seatpost / Stem - Race Face Evolve XC
Saddle - Voodoo
Grips - Superstar
Gears - 27 speed
Fork travel - 130 mm
Wheel size - 26 inch
Brakeset - Avid Elixir R hydraulic disc brakes with 180 rotors (Front) Avid Elixir R hydraulic disc brakes with 160 rotors (Rear)
Chainset - Raceface Evolve XC chainset
Front derailleur - SRAM X7
Rear derailleur         - SRAM X9
Shifters - SRAM X7
Front fork         - Rock Shox Revelation 409 Air U-Turn fork with 130mm travel, lockout, Motion Control & Dual Air and 20mm bolt through
Rear shock - Rock Shox Monarch 3.3 rear shock
Wheels - Mavic XM317
Tyres - Geax

The Spec is exceptional for the price, as for marks out of 10 it has to be a 9/10 easy. As you may know Halfords had the UK selling rights and still do on all Voodoo models. The spec of the Canzo dropped in 2011 and saw the brakes go down the Tektro route, along with other cheaper components. This was due to the financial state of the Far East apparently. It still retailed at around the £1000 mark even with lesser kit on it. I had one of the last 20" in the UK it was shipped from Doncaster to Norwich/Norfolk especially, something Halfords were a little reluctant to do at first but conceded in the end.

I think the bike looks quality myself and the kit on it is very decent.

Had no idea it was a bike sold in Halfords though? However that should no detract from the fact that your happy with it's performance.

It's a great looking machine and I really like the Avid disc brakes.... They seem to be highly rated so I understand.

Tis a nice bike and no mistake. There's a few modern rides out there that have my interest.

Thanks for your comments guys, it's a great value bike, and with the legend Joe Murray behind the design and developments of Voodoo Cycles you can go wrong. Handling is spot on and once again the spec is worthy of a bike twice the price.

No I wanna go out and play on it lol

Think the snap was on my decent, you can see the concentration on my face (Or maybe panic lol) Although later on in the ride I lost control and the front wheel slipped away from me in a tight technical part of the trail, threw me over the handlebars into a crumpled heap. Thankfully my lad was following behind and stopped to offer assistance............well his words were;

"Dad best move out the way, there are some more cyclists wanting to get passed!!"

After dragging myself off to the side of the trail I said to him;

"Its ok Son, I'm not hurt"

To which he replied;

"I Know Dad, you were making too much noise for me to worry about you, and to be honest you was more worried about your bike than any potential injuries!!!"

[biggrin]
